Mykia Buford is an oboe and English horn player from Stafford, Virginia, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education at George Mason University. She has studied under Bo Newsome (East Carolina University), Cynthia Babin Anderson, M.A. (West Virginia University), and most extensively with Emily Snyder (George Mason University).

 

Ms. Buford has served as principal oboist in the George Mason Wind Symphony under Dr. William Lake and the Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Soo Han. She has performed across Prince William and Fairfax Counties with ensembles including the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra and the Fairfax Wind Symphony. As a freelance artist, she regularly performs with churches in Herndon and Bowling Green and teaches private lessons to students in Fairfax and Prince William County. She also serves as the President of the Collegiate National Association for Music Educators GMU chapter.

 

Her dedication to music education and performance has been recognized through multiple scholarships, including the Friends of Music Scholarship at George Mason (2023–present), the WVU Canady School of Creative Arts Scholarship (2020–2022), and the Friends of the School of Music Scholarship at East Carolina University (2018–2019).
